Early Life
Born Parker Yancey McCollum on June 15, 1992, in Conroe, Texas, just north of Houston, he spent his summers working cattle ranches in Houston and Limestone Counties under the tutelage of his maternal grandfather Bobby Yancey, a former Justice of the Peace and County Commissioner who taught him to cowboy and introduced him to Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, and Steve Earle through the records they played on the ranch. He learned violin in elementary school, picked up guitar at 13 alongside his older brother Tyler in the family barn while absorbing George Strait and Willie Nelson, and credits Tyler's lyric writing as one of his greatest early influences, before his brother issued him a challenge at 17 to go play 30 shows in 30 days that launched his career in earnest.
Career Highlights
After moving to Austin to attend college while simultaneously grinding the Texas music circuit, McCollum released his debut EP in 2013 and his debut album "The Limestone Kid" in 2015, named after the nickname he earned on his grandfather's Limestone County ranch, and spent years building a devoted Texas following before signing with Universal Music Group Nashville in 2019 and releasing his major-label EP "Hollywood Gold." His debut single "Pretty Heart" from that EP became the only debut single to ship to radio and peak in 2020, shooting to number one on the Country Airplay chart and launching a historic run of four consecutive chart-toppers with "To Be Loved By You," "Handle On You," and the CMA-nominated Platinum smash "Burn It Down." His self-titled fifth studio album "Parker McCollum," released June 27, 2025, on MCA Nashville, debuted at a career-best number 35 on the Billboard 200, features a collaboration with Cody Johnson, and includes the current radio single "What Kinda Man," as he continues to build his reputation as one of country music's most relentless and beloved live performers.
Family & Personal Life
McCollum proposed to Hallie Ray Light on July 1, 2021, after crediting her with saving his life during a difficult personal period, and the couple married at Boxwood Manor in Texas with his uncle Todd Yancey officiating the ceremony wearing his late grandfather Bobby Yancey's cowboy hat as a tribute. Their son Major Yancey Tyler McCollum was born on August 8, 2024, with the middle names Yancey and Tyler honoring both his great-grandfather and his uncle, and McCollum has said he is committed to being the steady, present father that his own parents' early split prevented him from having. He is an avid collector of American muscle cars including a Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye and a Corvette C8 Z06, owns multiple family ranches across Texas, and wears a signature gold chain that he describes as a symbol of working hard and rewarding yourself while still carrying yourself with respect, earning him the nickname "Gold Chain Cowboy."
