George Strait, born in 1952, is a legendary country music singer, songwriter, and actor. Known as the "King of Country," he has sold over 120 million records and is one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Early Life

Born in Poteet and raised in Pearsall, Texas, George Strait spent his youth working on his family’s cattle ranch and playing in rock garage bands before discovering his passion for country music while serving in the U.S. Army.

Career Highlights

George Strait began his career fronting the Ace in the Hole Band in Texas before several unsuccessful trips to Nashville where labels initially rejected his traditional style. He nearly quit music for a career in agriculture before signing with MCA Records in 1981 and finding immediate success with his debut single Unwound. Known as the King of Country, he has since achieved a record breaking 60 number one hits while famously refusing to change his name to Cain Cooper or remove his trademark cowboy hat.

Family & Personal Life

George Strait married his high school sweetheart, Norma Voss, in 1971. The couple had two children, Jenifer, born in 1972, and George "Bubba" Strait Jr., born in 1981. Sadly, Jenifer died in a car accident as a child. He has remained married to Norma for over 50 years.
