Early Life
Born in Nashville and raised in the Antioch neighborhood, Jelly Roll grew up with a father who worked as a bookie and a mother who influenced his storytelling through her love of country music, while he independently developed an interest in hip-hop and began distributing mixtapes by the eighth grade. He got involved in drugs early and spent much of his teen and young adult years in and out of the prison system.
Career Highlights
Jelly Roll began his career in the early 2000s as a Nashville-based rapper, selling mixtapes out of his car before his 2010 collaboration Pop Another Pill went viral on YouTube. He transitioned to country music and signed with BMG, leading to his 2021 breakout album Ballads of the Broken and the multi-platinum hit Son of a Sinner. His mainstream rise includes winning the 2023 CMA New Artist of the Year award and receiving multiple Grammy nominations for his soulful storytelling.
Family & Personal Life
Jelly Roll married podcaster Bunnie Xo in 2016 and they renewed their vows in 2023. He has two children from previous relationships including a daughter, Bailee Ann, born in 2008 and a son, Noah Buddy, born in 2016. The couple recently announced they are exploring having their first child together via surrogacy. He has undergone a dramatic transformation getting clean and losing over 200 pounds.
