In the world of country music, a name can become a brand, a melody, and a legacy. But what if the name we know and love isn't the one they were born with? It's a fun fact that some of the biggest stars in the genre have a different name on their birth certificate, often opting to use their middle name to craft their superstar identity.
Here are five who did just that, turning their new moniker into a household name.
We all know Garth Brooks, the man who sold out arenas and became one of the best-selling artists of all time. But did you know his first name is Troyal? He chose to go by his middle name, and the rest is history.
Another legend is LeAnn Rimes. Her voice soared with "Blue" when she was just a teenager, making her a Grammy-winning sensation. While her first name is Margaret, she chose her middle name and it stuck.
Then there's the high-energy, ever-smiling Luke Bryan. Born Thomas Luther Bryan, he simplified his middle name to Luke, becoming a five-time Entertainer of the Year and a staple of summer tours.
Lauren Alaina's soulful voice first captivated audiences on a reality singing show. The singer's real name is Lauren Alaina Suddeth, and she chose to drop her last name. She's since become a Grand Ole Opry member with multiple chart-topping hits.
Finally, Kenneth Eric Church, better known as Eric Church, carved a unique path with his rebellious, rock-tinged country sound. Dropping his first name, he became a critically acclaimed artist, winning Entertainer of the Year and selling out stadiums with his Chief brand.
These stars prove that sometimes, a simple name change can be the first step on the road to superstardom.
