Early Life
Tanya Trotter grew up just outside Washington, D.C., discovering her vocal talents in church at age six and pursuing musical theater, while Michael Trotter Jr. was raised in Cleveland in a musical family and spent part of his childhood in homeless shelters before enlisting in the U.S. Army at age twenty-one.
Career Highlights
Michael and Tanya Trotter met in 2010 while pursuing solo careers and released their debut album Healing Tide in 2018 after signing with Rounder Records. They gained major momentum following a 2020 Grammy performance and a top 20 Billboard hit with Zach Bryan before signing with UMG Nashville for their 2023 major label debut Lover's Game. The duo made history as the first Black duo nominated for CMA Duo of the Year and won an Emmy for their work with the Tennessee Titans in 2025.

Michael and Tanya married in 2011 and have one son together born around 2011. Michael has two daughters from a previous relationship and has been open about how Tanya helped him through PTSD and suicidal ideation after his Army service.
