If you’re looking for the perfect heartfelt track for your wedding first dance, here are three timeless classics.
At number three is “When I Said I Do” by Clint Black, recorded with his wife Lisa Hartman Black. The duet became a number one hit and has held its place as a staple at weddings for more than two decades. The song’s simple declaration of commitment still connects with fans, especially since the couple has been married for nearly 35 years.
Coming in at number two is Johnny Cash’s “I Promise You,” a lesser known gem that tells a deeply personal story. Cash wrote the song after a San Quentin inmate asked him to deliver a message to the man’s wife. The result is a tender promise from the Man in Black to June Carter Cash, filled with sincerity and humility.
The top spot goes to a familiar favorite. George Strait’s “I Cross My Heart” remains one of the most requested country wedding songs of all time. Released in 1992, the ballad became another number one hit for Strait and has since been embraced by generations of newlyweds.
