North Carolina is the home of BBQ, basketball, and a whole lot of country music talent! Here at Country Bios, we fired up our proprietary ranking algorithm to see which artists born and bred in the Tar Heel State stand tallest on the national country scene. The results? Let's just say NC has some serious star power.
Leading the charge, and ranking an incredible #2 overall on our list, is modern superstar Luke Combs. Born in Huntersville, Combs has dominated charts and stadiums since his breakout. Not too far behind him sits "The Chief," Eric Church (#21). Hailing from Granite Falls, Church brings his signature rock edge and outlaw spirit to the genre.
But the NC honor roll doesn't stop there. The legendary Randy Travis (#47), whose smooth baritone defined an era, calls Marshville his hometown. Garner native and American Idol winner Scotty McCreery lands comfortably at #129.
Rounding out this impressive NC contingent are several more recent hitmakers: Winston Salem's Cooper Alan (#141), Kannapolis' Kameron Marlowe (#143), and Kernersville's Chris Lane (#158).
From established icons to the fresh faces rocking playlists today, North Carolina's contribution to country music is undeniable. Based on our rankings, it seems talent grows as readily as longleaf pines in the Old North State! Stay tuned to Country Bios for more rankings and insights.
