These Country Stars Swapped First Names for Fame

We've all had the urge to change things up, but these four country music icons took personal re-branding to a professional level. They pulled a bold move: ditching their given first names entirely and stepping into the spotlight using their middle name and last name as their stage identity. It’s a classic Hollywood trick, but these stars proved it’s also a clever country music strategy.

Take country titan Tim McGraw. Turns out, the "Tim" we know and love is actually his middle name! Born Samuel Timothy McGraw, dropping the "Samuel" clearly worked its magic.

Similarly, the legendary Hank Williams, Jr. isn't just a "Jr." His full first name is Randall.  And his dad’s given name doesn’t match either of these.  His father was born Hiram Williams.

Then there's the chart-topping Dierks Bentley. His birth certificate reads Frederick Dierks Bentley. We're glad he opted for Dierks; it's got a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

Finally, the modern outlaw Koe Wetzel made a dramatic switch from Ropyr Madison Koe Wetzel. "Koe" has certainly helped define his unique brand of country-rock.

Whether it was for better flow, a cooler vibe, or just good old-fashioned star-power strategy, these artists prove that sometimes, your middle name is the key to the marquee!
