Country superstar Luke Bryan’s been battling a pesky illness that’s put a damper on his signature twang. At a June 19th show in Rogers, Arkansas, the “Country Song Came On” tour took a hit when Bryan’s voice gave out mid-performance. In a move that’s pure class (and a little bit rock ‘n’ roll), the American Idol judge paused to address the crowd, admitting, “This is the weirdest thing I’ve ever dealt with. I cannot have my voice in this venue.” Then, channeling his inner hero, he announced full refunds for all attendees and powered through the show anyway, earning cheers and social media love for his grit. Fans called him a “class act,” with one TikTok user joking, “Arkansas allergies takin’ everybody out!”
But the bug wouldn’t budge. Bryan rescheduled Dallas and Lafayette shows for September 11 and 12, and now he’s pulled out of three festival gigs—Country Stampede (Kansas), NebraskaLand Days (Nebraska), and Country Jam (Colorado)—set for June 26-28.
Fear not, fans! Eric Church, Bryan’s long time buddy, is saddling up to headline all three, promising “unique and spontaneous” sets with Joanna Cotten.
Bryan’s itching to return, saying, “Sitting still is not what I do best.” Here’s to a speedy recovery, Luke.
