Early Life
Kix Brooks was raised in Louisiana by his father and began performing at age twelve after growing up near the widow of Hank Williams, while Ronnie Dunn was born in Texas to a musical father and a devout Baptist mother, eventually choosing a music career over his initial studies for the ministry.
Career Highlights
After moving to Nashville in the late 1970s and 1980s, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn struggled as solo artists before being paired by Arista Records executive Tim DuBois in 1990. Their 1991 debut album Brand New Man became an immediate sensation, producing four consecutive number one hits and sparking a national line dancing craze with Boot Scootin Boogie. As the best selling duo in country music history, they have amassed over 80 industry awards and 20 number one singles before their 2019 induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Family & Personal Life
Kix Brooks married his wife, Barbara, in 1981 and has two children, Eric (born 1982) and Molly (born 1986), though he famously nearly missed his wedding after oversleeping. Ronnie Dunn has been married to his wife, Janine, since 1990 and has three children, including Whitney (born 1975) and Jesse from a previous marriage, as well as daughter Haley from his current marriage.
