Rising from the heart of Mobile, Alabama, The Red Clay Strays are a band that feels both timeless and entirely new. Their sound is a magnetic blend of classic country, raw southern rock, and a dash of gospel-infused soul, a concoction as rich and unique as the red clay soil of their home state. But their journey wasn't an overnight sensation; it was forged on the road, playing countless gigs and building a dedicated following from the ground up.
The band's origins trace back to a humble cover band in 2016. Bassist Andrew Bishop and lead singer Brandon Coleman were part of the group before it dissolved, and they soon found their new sound by joining forces with guitarist/vocalist Drew Nix. With the addition of drummer John Hall and electric guitarist Zach Rishel, The Red Clay Strays were officially born. The name itself is a nod to their roots: "red clay" from Alabama and "strays" because the members all came from different walks of life, converging to create something truly special.
Each member brings a distinct flavor to the mix. Brandon Coleman’s powerful, soulful vocals have been compared to a blend of Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis, a truly electrifying presence. Drew Nix adds another layer with his vocals and harmonica, often co-writing the band’s poignant songs. The solid rhythm section of Andrew Bishop on bass and John Hall on drums provides the bedrock, while Zach Rishel's guitar work weaves in the textures of southern rock. The result is a band that’s more than the sum of its parts, a brotherhood that has captivated audiences with their electrifying live shows and genuine, down-to-earth artistry.
