As the college football playoff approaches, one question has sparked good-natured debate among fans of both gridiron action and country music: which playoff contender has the strongest roster of country stars cheering from the sidelines?

Several teams can make a credible case. At Texas Tech, the Josh Abbott Band proudly reps the Red Raiders. The group was formed in Lubbock and has long embraced its West Texas roots, giving Tech a notable presence in the country music world.

Alabama’s claim comes from Jason Isbell, who grew up in the state and remains a devoted supporter of the Crimson Tide. Isbell often references Nick Saban’s Process, making his fandom one of the most outspoken in the genre.

Texas A&M brings its own heavyweight to the contest. Granger Smith is not only an Aggie alumnus but also a former member of the Corps of Cadets. His song “We Bleed Maroon” is practically an unofficial anthem in College Station.

Oklahoma’s emotional tie comes from the late Toby Keith, one of the Sooners most passionate celebrity fans. Keith was a fixture on the sidelines for years, and even his private plane carried the school’s crimson and cream colors.

But when it comes to sheer star power, Georgia leads the pack. Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean have performed stadium shows in Athens and regularly celebrate the Bulldogs. Former player Rhett Akins and his son Thomas Rhett share the same loyalty. Rising star Megan Moroney represents the newest wave of Georgia supporters.

For 2025, the Bulldogs hold the crown in country music fandom.
