Three Fun Facts About Ella Langley From the Theo Von Show
By: Brian Zwerner
Ella Langley is everywhere right now. She just released her new album Dandelion. She is also touring with Morgan Wallen. Fans got a closer look at the star this week on the This Past Weekend podcast with Theo Von [01:06]. Ella shared some surprising stories about her life. Here are three fun facts we learned from the interview.
First, Ella dealt with a unique health challenge as a child. She had several eye surgeries to fix her eye muscles [07:38]. She joked that she was once the crosseyed girl in the church choir. Her doctor used a horse and carriage analogy to explain her condition [08:39]. The horses just would not work together to pull the carriage straight. She even had another surgery a few years ago. She described it as a brutal process where doctors have to work deep inside the eye [08:25]. It took a lot of grit to get through those procedures.
Second, the title of one of her songs has a sweet family origin. Her dad is the source of the name for Bottom of Your Boots [01:31:48]. Ella was having a tough night and needed a pep talk from her father. He told her that he loved her from the bottom of his boots to the top of his hat [01:32:07]. Ella realized right away that it was a great song title. She turned that moment of fatherly advice into a hit song that fans love.
Finally, Ella was a bit of a rebel in school. She was homeschooled in Alabama until sixth grade. When she finally went to a traditional school, she got into trouble [05:50]. Her teachers frequently cited her for the crime of distracting others. She had a designated seat in the corner of the classroom [06:06]. It was a green metal desk facing the wall. Ella admitted she just found school boring and wanted to talk to everyone. She eventually graduated in a class of only 32 students [08:00].
These stories show the humor behind the music. Ella Langley is more than just a voice on the radio. She is a small town girl with a lot of heart. You can find her full interview with Theo Von on YouTube below.
