In a world where image often outpaces authenticity, a handful of country music stars are keeping it real, and keeping it cowboy. These artists aren’t just singing about ranch life. They’ve lived it.

Ned LeDoux, the son of rodeo and country music legend Chris LeDoux, grew up on a working ranch in Kaycee, Wyoming. Raised in the shadow of the rodeo arena, Ned learned ranching from both his father and grandfather. Today, he carries on his dad’s legacy through his music, focusing on cowboy themes and the rugged spirit of the West.

Justin McBride is another artist who brings serious cowboy credentials. Before picking up a guitar, McBride was a bull riding legend, twice winning the PBR World Championship in 2005 and 2007. He racked up a record-setting 32 career wins and became the first professional rider to earn over $5 million. As his pro career was winding down, McBride turned to music, releasing three albums rooted in rodeo life and hard-earned grit.

Colter Wall rounds out the list. Hailing from the wide plains of Saskatchewan, Canada, Wall was raised on a ranch and brings a gritty authenticity to his songs about cattle, fencing, and the harsh beauty of rural life. His deep baritone and old-school sound caught the attention of Yellowstone, where his music has been featured prominently.

These three artists prove that for some in country music, the cowboy hat isn’t just for show—it’s a way of life.
