When you think country music, Alabama's deep roots from Hank Williams to the band Alabama often come to mind. But who's making noise now from the Yellowhammer State? We tapped into the Country Bios website's proprietary algorithm to see which current artists born or raised in 'Bama rank highest overall.
Leading the pack at #39 is Jacksonville's Riley Green. This former Jacksonville State University quarterback has tackled the charts with hits like "There Was This Girl" and his collaboration "Different 'Round Here." Not far behind at #67 is Ella Langley from Hope Hull. Her career rocketed with the smash #1 duet featuring Green, "You Look Like You Love Me," proving Alabama collaborations strike gold.
Making waves at #97 is Tyler Braden. Hailing from the uniquely named Slapout, this former firefighter brings serious heat with his powerful vocals. Then there's Mobile's Walker Hayes (#105), who served up the feel-good, viral hit "Fancy Like" that had everyone heading to Applebee's.
A true Alabama heavyweight, Jamey Johnson (#109) from Enterprise (and raised in Montgomery), is a Marine Corps veteran renowned for his songwriting chops ("In Color," George Strait's "Give It Away") and acclaimed albums. Hailing from Birmingham, Trey Lewis (#187) grabbed attention with his viral, humorously explicit track "Dicked Down In Dallas."
Rounding out our list are Kashus Culpepper (#197) from Alexander City, an Air Force vet mixing country, soul, and blues, and Jessie Murph (#205). Though born elsewhere, Murph grew up in Huntsville, gaining fame via TikTok and blending country with pop and rock on hits like "Wild Ones" with Jelly Roll.
From chart-toppers to viral stars, Alabama continues to be fertile ground for country music talent!
