Early Life
Kimberly Perry (born July 12, 1983), Reid Perry (born November 17, 1988), and Neil Perry (born July 23, 1990) were all born in Jackson, Mississippi, to parents Steve and Marie Perry, grew up in Mobile, Alabama, where music filled the household with everything from bluegrass and Queen to Stevie Wonder and rock, and relocated to Greeneville, Tennessee, in 2002, the town they still call home. At 15 Kimberly strapped on her first Gibson guitar and fronted her own high school band, employing Reid and Neil as her roadies, a job the brothers tolerated only until they formed their own band as her opening act, and the three siblings eventually united as The Band Perry after years of performing separately on the local circuit.
Career Highlights
In 2008 the siblings were discovered by Garth Brooks' manager Bob Doyle, who brought them to a Nashville studio to make demonstration recordings that caught the ear of Republic Nashville head Scott Borchetta, leading to a label signing in August 2009 and a debut single "Hip to My Heart" that fall. Their self-titled debut album, released October 12, 2010, produced the Diamond-certified smash "If I Die Young," written entirely by Kimberly and inspired in part by a miscarriage she suffered before recording it, which reached number one on both the Billboard Hot Country Songs and Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks charts and has since become one of the most streamed country songs in history. Over their career The Band Perry sold two and a half million albums and 12 million singles, racked up over one billion streams, scored six number-one singles including "Better Dig Two," "Done," and a Grammy-winning cover of "Gentle on My Mind," went on hiatus in 2023, reunited in 2025 after a benefit concert for Hurricane Helene relief, re-signed with Nashville Harbor Records, and now continue as a duo with Kimberly and her husband Johnny Costello after Reid departed in October 2025 to pursue artist management and Neil stepped away earlier that year to focus on solo music.
Family & Personal Life
Kimberly was first married to Toronto Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia on June 12, 2014, in Greeneville, Tennessee, and the couple divorced in March 2018 before she married musician Johnny Costello in June 2021, welcoming their son Whitaker James in 2023. Outside music, Reid is an avid equestrian and Neil an enthusiastic fly fisherman, and despite Reid's departure from the band the siblings remain close, with their bond described throughout their career as the defining ingredient that made their harmonies and their songwriting unique.
